Alice Jacobs, M.D.

Chairman, CEO, and Founder

Over a decade of industry experience spanning executive management and corporate financing, Dr. Jacobs has developed a business with a robust intellectual property position. In 2011 she was named Best Entrepreneur for a non-service business of up to 100 employees in the eighth annual Stevie® Awards for Women in Business. In 2009 IMDx was presented the Frost & Sullivan award for Healthcare Innovation, Clinical Diagnostics for Molecular Diagnostics and Scientific American named Dr. Jacobs as one of the top 50 innovators in science and technology. She was also selected by the World Economic Forum as a member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders. Dr. Jacobs is considered a thought leader in the area of molecular diagnostics and has been featured in IVD Technology, PharmaVOICE, Fox Business News, CNBC Healthy Horizons and the Boston Herald's Women in Business. Dr. Jacobs holds an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences with Honors in Developmental Neurobiology as well as a B.A. in Art History from Stanford University.

Thomas Gerson, MBA

Vice President, Finance

Mr. Gerson has over thirty years of corporate finance, business strategy, and operations experience both with large firms, such as Sterling Drug and Sanofi Pharmaceuticals earlier in his career, and more recently with privately-held, emerging life sciences companies spun out of Yale University, CGI Pharmaceuticals (a kinase drug discovery company purchased by Gilead Sciences) and HistoRx (a tissue protein, oncology biomarker diagnostics company). He has an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and a BA in History and Economics from Boston College.

Richard Del Mastro, Ph.D.

Vice President, Research and Development

Dr. Del Mastro joined IntelligentMDx in May 2011 as Vice President of Research and  Development, with 15 years of biotech experience and an R&D background in molecular and cell biology focused on molecular genetics, molecular diagnostics, molecular medicine and 2D/3D cell-based model systems. Dr. Del Mastro began his career identifying genes in Mendelian diseases and then those in complex diseases such as Osteoporosis and Asthma. At Genome Therapeutics, he headed the Functional and Cell Biology Department where his team developed cell-based model systems to understand the mechanistic role of disease-associated SNPs and genes. In 2004, Dr. Del Mastro received $4.4M in NIH grants and utilized them to functionalize 1200 unknown genes and map them to disease-associated pathways, as well as develop a diagnostic tool for the early detection of lung cancer. In 2007, Dr. Del Mastro joined Life Technologies as Director of Research and Product Development in the Gibco cell culture business. Dr. Del Mastro has published in 14 peer reviewed journals, 2 book chapters and is a co-inventor on 7 issued patents. Dr. Del Mastro obtained his undergraduate degree from Portsmouth University, UK in Biophysics, his Ph.D. from Birmingham University, UK in Molecular Genetics, and performed post doctoral studies at UCONN Health Center, Farmington, CT and UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX.

Sarah S. Toomey, Esq.

 

Senior Director, Legal and Business Development, Abbott Alliance Manager

Nearly a decade of experience working in the life sciences, Ms. Toomey began her career as a Microbiologist at Merck & Co after attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and later earned a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School. Ms. Toomey worked as an Associate at several intellectual property law firms, including Greenblum & Bernstein, prior to joining IMDx. Ms. Toomey is registered to practice before the USPTO, and is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Paige Ferraguto, MBA

Director, Human Resources 

Ms. Ferraguto joined IntelligentMDx in October of 2010 with vast experience as a Human Resources Business Partner. Ms. Ferraguto has served in both Human Resources specialist and generalist roles in the medical devices, software development and healthcare industries. Ms. Ferraguto recently served as the Director of Benefits for a Healthcare organization in Miami serving 9,500 employees across the nation. Ms. Ferraguto has a Bachelor degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters of Business Administration from Simmons Graduate School of Management.

Carol Walker

Vice President, Quality Assurance

Ms. Walker has over 25 years of experience in quality management. She joined IntelligentMDx in January 2012, coming from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, where she was the Vice President of Quality Assurance. At Siemens she was responsible for implementation and maintenance of the world wide quality system and managed a total staff of 165 employees. Prior to Siemens, Ms. Walker spent over 15 year at Nova Biomedical in increasing roles of responsibility, ending as a Senior Quality Control Manager. Ms. Walker obtained her BS in Medical Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology.
