IntelligentMD CEO Jacobs Chairs Panel at Harvard Business School Alumni Health Industry Conference

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, November 5, 2007 — IntelligentMD CEO, Dr. Alice Jacobs, spoke on “Public and Private Partnerships for Working with Emerging Threats” at the Harvard Business School Health Industry Conference presented by the alumni association, HBS Health.

Jacobs chaired the panel moderated by The Economist’s chief business writer, Mathew Bishop, with other leaders in the world health community: Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Stephane Bancel, CEO of BioMeriuex; Sara Sievers, Senior Program Officer for Global Health Advocacy at the Gates Foundation; and Kirk Ririe, Founder of Idaho Technology.

The engaging discussion covered a wide variety of issues facing Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), illuminating the need for efficient innovation in dealing with emerging infectious diseases. In speaking of the role that the PPPs can play, Dr. Jacobs stated that they “allow everyone to work on what they’re good at.” She pointed out that because PPPs promote specialization, they can allow for the most effective treatment of mutating pathogens. The discussion also included insights into the evolving role that philanthropic organizations such as the Gates Foundation play in the world of public and private partnerships.
